Absolutes...

There is an inherent fear in all people that what we do is for naught… every good deed, every act of malice, every kiss, every death… everything will eventually be forgotten and therefore in the end does not matter…

Many people come to this realization, either consciously or subconsciously, and do what they will to fight it. For to be remembered, to leave the slightest inkling that you were here is the hope of every person on this Earth. We want to be remembered… to be liked… to be loved… to show the rest of the world that we mattered if only for the briefest of moments.

But…

Is this how it really is?

While quantities of people scramble in the face of oblivion, there are equal quantities that do not. Does this mean they are unafraid? Do they not care? Or maybe there is another thought…

The thought, again consciously or subconsciously, that every single person’s life impacts another in some way, and that person’s life affects another, which affects another…

Going on this theory, just a handshake can change the course of future, the swatting of a bug can save thousands of lives, and a single night of passion can lead to the fall of empires. These moments we can’t see seem unimportant and forgettable, yet are in all actuality the fabrics of things to come…

We see the world in absolutes. Black and white, yes and no, right and wrong… Nothing matters or everything matters.

But…

The problems with absolutes are… that we forget the shades of gray.
