BIG NEWS!!

Some of you know this already, and I’m not sure who they have shared it with so I’m just going to make a general announcement.

Come this Wednesday (tomorrow), I will no long be employed by Princess Cruises. Starting December 1st (Thursday) I will be employed by PLAY magazine.

GO ME!

I’m so happy and excited; I’m counting down the hours.

For those of you that don’t know, PLAY is a Video Game and Anime magazine… a very good one at that too. I’ll finally be working in my field (Journalism/Publishing) and I’ll be working in TWO genres of entertainment that I absolutely love.

So how did this come to be?

Well, about four months ago (on a whim) I called the magazine to inquire about how one would go about getting a job with the magazine. I left voice-mail messages for the Publisher, Director of Operations, and the Editor in Chief. About a week later, there was a message on my voice-mail from the Publisher saying he wanted to get in touch with me and answer my questions. I was surprised, but immediately called him back and left another voice-mail. Then I called again the next and left a voice-mail… and the next day… and the next… I was worried that I was being a pest, but I really REALLY wanted this.

After about a week of voice-mails, I get a call. It was the Publisher. We talked for about 45 minutes about the magazine, the gaming industry, what my goals were, etc. Then he told me he liked my persistence on how I kept calling. The call ended, and I was to send him a copy of my resume, which I did that night.

I waited two days to hear from them, I wanted to make sure they had received my resume. After I didn’t hear anything, I started the phone calls again, this time about once every 2 to 3 days. Still didn’t hear anything. After about three weeks I stopped calling.

FAST forward to about two weeks ago, I’m at work and the phone rings. I didn’t recognize the number so I wasn’t going to answer… but something told I should. I got up from my desk and answered it…

ME: Hello?
VOICE: Yes, is (my name) there?
ME: Speaking.
VOICE: This is (his name) with PLAY magazine.
(Short pause)
ME: … Hi!

They asked me to come in for an interview, because I had really impressed them with my persistence earlier in the year. I had made them remember me! I was in shock. Of course I would come in for an interview! WOW, COOL! I took a day off work the next week and went in for the interview. I was in there for about three hours, where I met the Publisher, the Director of Operations and the Editor and Chief.

Two days after my interview, they called and offered me the position.

So that’s the story. Pretty damn cool. Only took me a little over two years after getting out of college to get a job in my field. And it’s with a magazine I truly love and enjoy to read. =)

So how are you?

Q

Oh, on a side note, I started another blog over on live journal. Why? I dunno since I can’t even keep this one regularly updated. That one is going to be more fun and games I think, while this one… well is also fun and games with serious stuff thrown in between.
