How I spent my (not) summer vacation. By Q

Well, autumn is finally here and as a tribute to the years gone by I’m going a review of a couple of things I did that were fun and exciting… and not so fun and exciting.

Part 1: San Diego Comic Con (July)

The Con of Cons. The Big One. And I was there… for one day. I had fully planned on going for two days but a few things threw that idea out the window. Namely, no hotel to stay in and no money. So I drove to San Diego that morning and drove back that night. The good news is I got to do everything I wanted to get done aside from not getting that many sketches in my sketch book (total of 4 I think). Met Greg Rucka (READ!) again… he’s still cool. Met Frank Cho, the main reason I went to the show and my main disappointment. Frank was nice enough, but he wasn’t doing sketches… the main reason I went to the show was to get a sketch by Frank Cho. Hence my disappointment. None the less, if you haven’t read Liberty Meadows, you need too. It’s fun.

Part 2. More Friends: The Music of Final Fantasy (May?)

Needless to say I was really looking forward to this. I was upset I missed the first one that happened last year, so as soon as I heard they were doing a “sequel” of sorts, I bought my tickets right then and there. Now I’m not going to say I was disappointed… It was good… but not what I expected. The entire show was plagued by technical problems: Microphones not working or working when they shouldn’t. There also was this constant slamming (like a door) coming from off stage. Then when Nobuo Uematsu (the composer of most Final Fantasy music, for those of you that don’t know) came on stage for the finale performance of “One Winged Angel” there were four, yes FOUR, false starts. It was so bad that Uematsu got very embarrassed and actually walked off the stage for a period of time. Other than that I enjoyed myself.

That’s it for today. If all goes well, I may have a surprise for all of you tomorrow or Wednesday.

Laters,

Q
